NormanMarcon
Dr Norman Marcon is currently a Senior Gastroenterologist at St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada. He obtained his degree in Medicine in 1962 at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. He did his Internal Medicine at the University of Toronto hospitals. His GI training was at the Boston City Hospital, Harvard Unit and the St Mark's Hospital, London, England. Dr Marcon returned to Canada to start the Gastroenterology Division at the Wellesley Hospital in Toronto. At the Wellesley Hospital, he established an active GI Therapeutic Endoscopy Team and world-renowned training program. He was Head of the GI Division until 1999. His group established the Annual International Therapeutic Endoscopy Course, the so called Wellesley Course. Dr Marcon’s main interests in therapeutic endoscopy are education, early detection of cancer, using stool analysis, biological markers, fluorescence and optical coherence tomography (OCT). He coined the term “endoscopic oncology”, and is involved with pioneering work in photodynamic therapy, stents, as well as, thermal and chemical devices. | |
