Dr David Lieberman is Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon and the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Dr Lieberman received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Michigan.
Dr Lieberman is Chairman for Veterans Affairs Cooperative Study 380, which utilized colonoscopy to screen asymptomatic subjects. Significant findings were published in the New England Journal of Medicine in July 2000 and August 2001, and in JAMA in December 2003. He has published work on the cost-effectiveness of colon cancer screening.
He is the Director of the Clinical Outcomes Research Initiative (CORI), supported by NIH since 1999. The project has created a national endoscopic data repository for research.
Other research has focused on reflux esophagitis and Barrett’s esophagus. During the past 20 years, Dr Lieberman has published more than 100 original articles. He served as Associate Editor of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy from 1994 to 1996. Dr Lieberman was President of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy from 2001 to 2002.
